The European Training Programme for Animation Professionals!
After a successful premiere last year “EAMprofessional” will be continued
in 2011. The International Academy of Media and Arts will
present again the module-based workshops with a focus on practical
application.
In November 2011, two different modules will refl ect specifi c features
of animation fi lm production. Under the guidance of experienced
animation experts, the EAMprofessional focuses in detail on
the individual production phases and their particularities in creating
an animation fi lm. The workshop is aimed at young professionals,
animation professionals, fi lmmakers, artists as well as the so-called
“Next Generation”. In doing so, we want to promote cross-genre exchange
and invite – apart from representatives of the animation industry
– also the “border crossers” among the fi lmmakers to open
up to the animation genre (e.g. games, animation in documentaries
or live action movies). As a participant, you bring your own project
to the workshop and benefi t directly from the exchange with other
participants, personal discussions with our experts or from intensive
group work.
This network provides an ideal environment in which to examine
ideas with regard to their feasibility, develop contacts, stimulate collaboration
and discover new perspectives for perhaps becoming a
border crosser yourself.
EAMprofessional 2011 is a perfect follow-up for events
like CARTOON FORUM, MIPCOM, MIPjunior etc.!

Mike Robinson > was
born in the UK. After working

(BATS); he is chairperson at Cartoon Forum 2011
in Sopot, Poland and is invited to conduct animation

Joan Lofts > was appointed Director of Television at Contender Entertainment Group
in 2001 after a long term career in Britsh television (e.g. Director of Broadcasting at ITV2
or Deputy Head of Acquisitions and Development at BBC). Recent animated hits include
“Tractor Tom”, “Peppa Pig”, “Humf”, “Little Kingdom” and a special for Channel 4 “Lost
and Found”. Joan is now semi retired but is still keeping her hand in with individual
projects and mentoring opportunities. She is a chairperson for the Cartoon Forum 2011
in Sopot, Poland.

for a number of successful animated European feature fi lms and TV series, such as
“Werner – Das muss kesseln” (animation supervision), “Jasper the penguin” and “Lazy
Lucy” (creator, head author) and most currently, “The little Knight Trenk” (director, head
author). Fingberg teaches design and story development at the Animation School Hamburg
and works as guest lecturer for other institutions and workshops.

Christophe Erbes > was born in France. He worked for Canal+ International in Paris.
He was then responsible for the kids’ and short fi lms de-partment at PREMIERE in Germany
before becoming Head of Programmes at S-RTL / Disney Germany. After being Head
of Programmes and Deputy Managing Director of NICKELODEON Germany, he was Managing
Director at Fox Kids / Jetix in Madrid, London and Munich. He is a Member of the Board
of the German kids fi lms support association. Under pseudonym, he is a published kids’
books author and a script writer.
Pete Reeves (Manchester, UK) > has scripted “Bob the Builder” for HIT Entertainment
and has written “Bob” stage shows plus full length DVDs. For his work on “Bob the
Builder” he won a fi nalist’s certifi cate at the New York Animation Festival 2007. Other
credits include “Timmy-Time” for Aardman Animation and “Chuggington” for Ludorum.
Currently, among other works in development, he’s scripting a pre-school series for Steve
Walsh Productions/Epidem Zot Helsinki called “NOKSU”. Pete lectures on Scriptwriting
at Salford University and at the Animation workshop, Viborg, Denmark.

In memoriam
Steven P. Jobs, chairman and co-founder of Apple Inc. and personal computing pioneer, passed away today, October 5, at age 56.
“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve,” a statement from Apple read.One of the pioneers of Silicon Valley, Jobs helped turn the area into a tech industry hub. His company, Apple, changed consumer interaction with technology by focusing on appealing design and ease and intuitiveness of use. Apple’s iPhone and iPad have immeasurably fueled the new media revolution, providing popular new platforms for entertainment content, and Jobs’ passing will be deeply felt by those in the animation community and the world at large.
Jobs took a six month medical leave in 2009, during which he underwent a liver transplant. He took another unexplained medical leave of absence early this year before stepping down as chief executive this summer.
His family issued a statement saying that Jobs “died peacefully today surrounded by his family,” acknowledging that his loss will be mourned by many and asking that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time. Jobs is survived by his wife, Laurene, and four children.

calls for projects of future animation short films
into the pitching competition
11 International Festival of Animated films AniFest 2012 (26 April - 1 May) organises a competition of projects of future animation short films with the producers' pitching sessions.
The 15 selected projects will be presented at the festival programme of Exchange Production Forum in front of international producers, professionals and potential coproducers looking for new talents and young promissing filmmakers. Each project can be represented at most by one author and one producer at the final pitching session.
The pitching competition is open to any East European or Visegrad project. We accept also projects from Western Europe that have any relation to our region or that emphasises the values of European culture exchange and international cooperation.
The pitching jury of international professionals will choose the Best project that will be awarded
by The Prize of the company KNAUF with the prize money of 1000 euro.

The deadline for submission is on 28 February 2012
conditions For submitting:
- AniFest accepts only short film projects of films under 30 minutes of lenght
- At least 50 percent of the film must be done with an animation or multimedia technique with the emphasis on the graphical form of the final result.
- The project must have a producer who could represent it at the pitching competition alone or with one author (filmmaker or designer).
- There is no fee for submission of the project.
- The project must be accompamied by a description of a basic idea, a synopsis, examples of graphic and visual style, short biography of a director and presentation of the producer and a realistic estimation of a budget and a development plan.
- The competition does not have an age limits but we support mainly young filmmakers and artists under the age of 38.
Details about the project
Supportive iniciative of Visegrád Exchange Forum is focusing on young talents, filmmakers, students at the end of their curriculum, who are trying to produce their animated short films and start an international carrier. By participating at this Anifest program they can learn more about the possibilities of European audiovisual market, meet potential coproduction partners and find new possibilities of financing a project.

Festival comitee will choose fifteen best projects that will be presented at the pitching competition organised at the Visegrád Exchange Forum at Anifest 2012. One project can be represented by one producer and one author at the most who will be attending a special preparation workshop in order to consult their projects with professionals before the final pitching. Participants will be able to enter any of Visegrád Exchange Forum lectures on modern production abilities in animation films and on development of projects lead by international experts. If you are interested we can send you transcriptions of the last year debates.
Such an event offers also unique possibilities of meeting foreign profesionals and producers looking for new talents and interesting topics from our region. The program will offer formal and informal oportunities how to meet them and discuss possibilities of coproductions in our region between countries with different production capacity. There will be also several case studies presented of such coproduction cooperation.
The first year of this iniciative was visited by local professionals but also by various international producers: Nicolas Schmerkin (Autour de Minuit), Arnaud Demuynck (Films du Nord, La Boite Production), Christian Pfohl (Lardux), Olivier Catherin (Les Trois Ours), Ron Dyens (Sacrebleu Productions), Sébastien Vincent (Eslanimation studio), Vessela Dantcheva (Fin film, Bulharsko).
There were also Sales Agents : Anja Šošič (New Europe Film Sales), Peter Haueis (KurzFilmAgentur, Hamburg e.V.).
Next year we expect also a very good line up of international producers. We will be updating the list continuously.

Анимационна работилница – Варвара’11
Анимационната работилница – Варвара’2011, организирана от Нов български университет, програма „Анимационно кино”, вече отпразнува втория си рожден ден. Тази година беше особена, защото работилницата се състоя веднага след Седмото издание на Варненски фестивал на анимационното кино, възроден с много ентусиазъм след 22 години. След няколко изпълнени с прожекции и филми фестивални дни, студентите, които присъстваха на фестивала, веднага след закриването му се захванаха сами да правят кино: изрезкова анимация в кметството на малкото село под вещото ръководство на Жан Люк Слок и Карин Мирал и пиксилация на открито, вдъхновена от руските гости на Варненския фестивал – членът на Международното жури Алексей Алексеев и представителите на московския международен анимационен фестивал „Златната рибка” – Александра Фомина и Алексей Котьоночкин.
Пътуващата работилница на Жан Люк Слок се нарича „Камера и .т.н.” и е организирана през 1979г. Оттогава досега във фонда й са се натрупали прекрасни и разнообразни малки филми, създадени от деца, студенти и възрастни от всички краища на света, както и няколко забележителни авторски филми на Матийо Лабай, Луиз- Мари Колон и Делфин Ерман. Асистентката на Слок, Карин Мирал стартира своя работилница „Лабоданим” след опита си в работилниците на престижния международен фестивал на анимационното кино в Анеси, където е асистирала на Едуард Назаров, Раул Серве, Мишел Осло и други майстори на анимационното изкуство.
В дългия списък от работилници във филмографията на „Камера, и т.н.” успешно се нареди и Варвара’11. Записалите се за участие студенти от НБУ, НАТФИЗ и професионални аниматори бяха твърде много – над 30 човека. Затова Жан Люк ги раздели на четири екипа, които си направиха график и ползваха нощни смени, за да заснемат филмите си. Така студентите получиха практически опит в една от модерните функции на анимацията –социалната. Да се работи в колектив е важно и от професионална гледна точка, но да се решават бързо конфликтите и всеки един да участва пълноправно в създаването на филма, беше интересен и важен опит за всички участници. Карин Мирал предложи темата морски истории, екипите се оттеглиха вечерта да пишат сценарии и да подготвят сториборд и типажи. На сутринта усилената работа започна. Наложи се някои от екипите да премислят историите си. Имаше и дребни технически проблеми. Учудващо обаче, експедитивността и енергичността на водещите зарази студентите и всички накрая представиха кратки изрезкови морски миниатюри, които със заряда, идеите си и атмосферата си не отстъпват на редица сериозно и дълго мислени и правени анимационни филми. Що се отнася до техниката на изпълнение – изрезката, Жан Люк и Карин запознаха съвсем накратко студентите с двата начина за движение – заместващи изрезки , каквито използва майсторът на изрезката Юрий Норщейн и шарнирни изрезки. Не по - малко важни обаче бяха практическите съвети и малки изобретения, които използваха – малък шивашки перфоратор, краткотрайно лепило и секретни копчета. Идеята на водещите беше в рамките на една добре разказана простичка историйка, студентите да се опитат да направят силуетна, черно-бяла анимация с изрезка. Търсенето на най-експресивен и изразителен силует е задача, което е особено важна за актьорската анимация.
Междувременно екипите, които не бяха на смяна, попадаха във вдъхновяващата, свободна творческа атмосфера, създадена от Алексей Алексеев. Сякаш на игра, забавлявайки се, студентите, заедно с руските гости и Теодор Ушев, автор на няколко нашумели експериментални анимационни филма и сътрудник на легендарния филмов борд на Канада, създадоха няколко смешни и живи пиксилации, заснети покадрово на плажа, по красивите крайморски скали и в градината на хотела.
При това заснемане най-активно се включиха двамата студенти от програма „Кино и телевизия”, от които тази есен се очаква са направят втория си документален филм за работилницата във Варвара - Мила Ленкова, оператор и Георги Вълков, режисьор на филма. Документалният им филм за работилницата на Прийт и Олга Пярн бе сред най-добрите наградени филми на Студентския фестивална НБУ в края на миналата година.
Дългогодишен сътрудник на известното в Европа Варга студио, режисьор на поредици по поръчка на известни филмови компании и телевизионни канали като Никелодеон, Сезами стрийт, Канал Франс Интернасионал и др., Алексеев владее една необяснима тайна. Филмите, които, той представи на студентите, притежават едно толкова рядко качество в днешния свят – те са смешни. В разговора, който продължи след прожекцията, той обърна особено внимание на звука като пълноправен елемент на анимационния филм, както и на пълнокръвния анимационен типаж – най-съществения елемент в огромна част от анимационните филми.
В работилницата взеха важно участие, оказвайки ненатрапчива помощ и подкрепа, преподавателите в програма „Анимационно кино” - основният организатор на работилницата - проф. Анри Кулев, доц. Невелина Попова, доц. Цветомира Николова, директорът на програмата Севина Иванова, Пенчо Кунчев, също член на Международното жури на варненския фестивал, както и преподавателката от НАТФИЗ „ Кр. Сарафов” д-р Радостина Нейкова. Атмосферата на Варненския фестивал продължи. Освен текущите задачи на работилницата, се обсъждаха разгорещено филми, бъдещи проекти и планове, анимационни техники, нови идеи – понякога до късно вечер на фона на живата анимация – танците с хавайски огнени пои в изпълнение на възпитанничката на НБУ Десислава Кузманова.

Студентите се заредиха с творчески ентусиазъм, нови идеи и практически опит. Заговориха за анимационната работилница във Варвара като за изключително ценна,макар и относително нова традиция и вече очакват третия й рожден ден.

КОНКУРС ЗА КЪСОМЕТРАЖЕН ФИЛМ
"ИГРИ НА КЪСМЕТА"
РЕГЛАМЕНТ
I. Организатори:
Съюз на българските филмови дейци, творческо-професионална организация, която от основаването си през 1934 съдейства за развитието на филмовото изкуство в България и съответно, за реализацията на всяко ново поколение кинематографисти.
„ЕВРОБЕТ” – Генерален спонсор на Българската Филмова Академия, създадена през 2010 година.
II. Партньори:
НАТФИЗ - Национална академия за театрално и филмово изкуство, Факултет "Екранни изкуства"
НБУ - Нов български университет, Департамент "Кино, реклама и шоубизнес"
Югозападен университет "Неофит Рилски", Факултет по изкуствата
Професионален Арт колеж по екранни изкуства.
III. Цели:
1. Конкурсът има за цел да привлече вниманието на бъдещите професионалисти в сферата на аудиовизията в България с идеята за арт експеримент.
2. Темата на конкурса – "Игри на късмета", като вид творческа провокация, да даде възможност на най-младите, подготвящи се за творци на аудиовизуални произведения именно през 21. век – века на аудиовизията, да проявят артистично и метафорично въображение за всичко в човешкия живот – от любовта до смъртта, от себереализацията до надеждата за късмет.
3. Отличените в конкурса филмови автори да бъдат еднократно финансово подпомогнати за творческото си развитие по време на обучението си.
IV. Право на участие в конкурса:
1. Във Филмовия конкурс «Игри на късмета» имат право да участват всички студенти от всички курсове, обучаващи се за бакалаври и магистри по киноспециалностите в Националната академия за театрално и филмово изкуство, в Нов български университет, в Югозападния университет "Неофит Рилски" и в Професионалния Арт колеж по екранни изкуства.
2. Крайният срок за предаване на късометражните филми за участие в конкурса „Игри на късмета” е 25.11.2011 г.
3. Филмите се предават на 5 броя DVD в Съюза на българските филмови дейци, на адрес: София, бул. Дондуков 67 (сградата на Студия "Време", етаж 4), всеки работен ден от 10 до 17 часа.
4. Кандидатите за участие в конкурса предават заедно с творбите си и попълнен Формуляр–Заявка за участие във Филмовия конкурс "Игри на късмета" (по образец). В него те декларират с подписа си, че са автори на филма, че той е създаден специално за дадения конкурс, както и че са съгласни филмите им да бъдат популяризирани.
5. Победителите в конкурса се определят от 4-членно професионално жури. Присъжда се и Награда на публиката, определена чрез гласуване в Интернет в периода 12.12.2011 г. – 22.01.2012 г.
6. Победителите се обявяват на Официална церемония в Дома на киното в края месец януари 2012 година (конкретната дата ще бъде допълнително съобщена).
V. Изисквания към филмите:
1. Без ограничения за вида кино (игрални, документални, анимационни), както и за жанра.
2. Времетраене от 3 до 5 минути.
3. Няма изискване техниката на заснемане да е задължително професионална, важни са идеята и творческата инвенция.
4. Филмът да е озвучен на български език (ако е на чужд език), както и да има субтитри на английски език.
VI. Награден фонд:
„ЕВРОБЕТ” осигурява финансово покритие на наградите във Филмовия конкурс "Игри на късмета". Като всяка награда има смисъл на еднократно подпомагане за творческо развитие.
